Women in Industry Research Document

The Women In Industry research document gives a picture of South Yorkshire women's lives during the last century and has a treasure trove of images that have been kindly provided to us with permission from archives across the region.

"It is difficult for modern women to appreciate the position of women in 1900. We take for granted our freedom to act as individuals, to participate as full citizens in deciding the nation's affairs and are, at last becoming familiar with real equal pay. The 19th century saw the suppression of women to an extent rarely seen before in Britain. The 20th century became the battle ground for the fight for real change in women's rights and lives."
Dr Lynne Fox

The research was to inform the oral history project and to form the basis of the exhibition that is currently at Kelham Island Industrial Museum.
