Prime Minister meets Sheffield Women of SteelThe National Lottery funded South Yorkshire Women in Industry project goes from strength to strength, sparking the Women of Steel campaign by the Sheffield Star to get recognition for the women who worked in the munitions factories during the Second World War.

Some of the women featured in the oral history section of this web site traveled from Sheffield to London on a special train, renamed the 'Women of Steel Express' for the occasion, to visit Prime Minster Gordon Brown at No 10.

The Prime Minster thanked them personally for their service to the country and paid tribute to the hundreds of women who worked hard in the steel factories of South Yorkshire under extremely difficult conditions during World War II.
